Microsoft outage sparks fears of World War III as aliens and Russia blamed for ‘attack’ – US News – News

Social media platforms are awash with wild conspiracy theories after the global IT outage, with some declaring “we are under attack.”

Key sectors, such as media companies, airlines, banking, healthcare, and supermarkets, have felt the sting of the worldwide technological snag that struck last night.

The situation has triggered wild – and entirely unfounded – speculations, ranging from whispers of the dawn of World War 3 to fingers pointed at Russia or even extraterrestrial interference.

On X, one user nervously posted: “We are under attack.”

Taking a bizarre leap to sci-fi explanations, a user hinted: “It’s the first step in an alien attack. They take the communicates down first. Call Will Smith! For the sake of humanity.”

Another voiced a similar concern: “Not to be too alarmist, but the current situation would be the likely scenario in the event of an alien invasion…….just saying!”

However, cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike has confirmed that the global IT outage was not a security incident or cyberattack.

A spokesperson added: “The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.”

Airline giants American Airlines, Qantas, and Ryanair are among those struggling with disruptions today. Prominent broadcasters like Sky News went off air while critical services like NHS and banking systems were also impacted.

Train services didn’t escape the digital havoc either.

Microsoft 365 has acknowledged the issue impacting user access to apps and services.

Commenting on the crisis on X this morning, they assured users: “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.

“We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue.”
